Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council announces Award winners

April 28, 2012, Gander, NL The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) presented the 27th Arts Awards tonight at the Joseph R. Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre in Gander.
Six awards honouring the accomplishments of Newfoundland and Labrador’s artists were presented. The winners are:
“It is only fitting that we gather this evening to celebrate the astounding diversity of our artists and their creations. The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council is both proud and humbled by the role it plays in our vibrant community,” says NLAC Chair Tom Gordon. “From sustaining support to our major companies to the exciting projects of hundreds of individual artists to our innovative arts-in-education programs, the Arts Council has been part of jump starting the dynamic and compelling work of the province’s creative community.”
Nominations for the awards are submitted by the arts community, arts organizations, and the general public. Members of the NLAC vote by secret ballot to select the finalists and winners.
Winners of the Artist of the Year, Emerging Artist, Arts in Education, and Arts Achievement Awards receive a $2,000 cash prize and a piece of artwork. Inductee’s to the Hall of Honour and winners of the Patron of the Arts Award receive a piece of artwork.
